This is the first of a two part series. In this episode the topics of work, energy, and other SI units are discussed as a prelude to discuss the recent hype about the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The world didn’t end, and the hype has died down, it seemed like a good topic to cover to show why the world didn’t end.

Before we get to that, it is important to discuss some of the concepts and the various SI and other units in which quantities related to the device are measured.
