Course Announcement - MEAS104 - SI Units - The kilogram

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

The course “MEAS104 - SI Units - The kilogram” has been added to the course catalog. This is the third in a series of four courses on the SI units. It covers, naturally, the SI unit for mass, the kilogram. This is probably going to be the shortest course in the series. It has as prerequisites MEAS101, MEAS102, and MEAS103.

Well here it is Episode -3. There were many problems with this episode, one being a broken microphone in the interview. Quality is not the best, but we are learning.

Eckard Natter, one of our consultant network members, is interviewed. Eckard is looking for part-time consulting work, and if you are interested in hiring Eckard, send us an e-mail at info@learningmeasure.tv. Eckard’s resume can be found at

http://www.learningmeasure.com/cgi-bin/lmreviewresume.pl?name=enatter

If you join our consultant network, and you are in the Las Vegas area, you are entitled to an interview on one of our podcasts.

Most of the material presented in this podcast regarding antenna measurement can be found in our courses

In the case of the three antenna technique presented, it may be difficult to read some of the equations on the board. The whole basis of what was presented is the simplified version of the Friis transmission equation

Pr = Pt Gt Gr lamda^2 / (4 pi R)^2

for three pairs of antennas with the subscripts on Gt Gr replaced by G1 G2, G1 G3, and G2 G3. How these three equations in three unknowns can be solved can be found in the referenced courses. We have a Friis Transmission Equation Calculator that can be used to perform calculations.
Any test equipment vendor out there who wants to demonstrate their wares on the podcast, or even have a link back to their product, or a product review, contact us.

In this episode we continue on with our general measurement topic. This episode has a few mistakes, but we are working on it. The white board was still a problem with the mathematical derivations. Unfortunately this was an impromptu episode that was put together after our interview did not take place. The material in this episode in large part comes from the courses UNC101, UNC102 and MEAS101 to be found on http://www.learningmeasure.com.

There was an error in the expression for the uncertainty of area in the podcast. I forgot to put parenthesis in the correct expression:

Sorry about that. Also, it may have been difficult to see some of the equations in some of the examples given. Sorry about that as well. I need to clarify this example and probably will do that in a much later episode, after some more interesting topics.

I am having trouble making this work with iTunes, as a result, there may be several different versions of the same video over the next few days as I try to make this work.

Here it is, episode “negative five” of our podcast. This is our first attempt at the video podcast. We have a whiteboard that we experimented with, and have discovered that doesn’t work so well. The primary purpose of this podcast to introduce what we are trying to do, and we give a short discussion on measurement.

This is our first attempt, so we haven’t worked all the bugs out yet. We are experimenting, that is why we decided to start with episode “negative five”. If you would like to suggest material for the podcast in the future e-mail us at suggestions@learningmeasure.tv. If you are a vendor of test equipment and would like to demo your latest wares, or send us a press release, or advertise with us e-mail us at vendors@learningmeasure.tv. If you want to be part of our consultant network, and possibly get an interview on our podcast, follow the instructions to be found on http://www.learningmeasure.com.
